Sakai is a project which were born in 2004 in the U.S. universities (MIT, Stanford, Michigan and Indiana) and began to expand in Anglo-Saxon countries and prestigious universities such as Yale, Oxford, Cambridge ...

 At that time, the Universidad de Lleida in Spain, decided to enter into the project, but Sakai was not internationalized. Thanks to the enormous effort of the university and its continuation at the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia and some Japanese universities. Sakai became a fully multi-lingual product and together with other features such as its wide range of functionality, robust architecture based on Java, integration and communication capabilities with other systems, the comprehensive of the quality work control done in recent years and active community, has broaden its scope to expand it to global level.

In the Latin American area, there are Sakai clear references, such as the universities mentioned above (Lleida and the Polytechnic of Valencia), the Public University of Navarra, University of Murcia, Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia, Valencian International University, the Complutense University of Madrid, all in Spain, the Virtual University Guadalajara, Autonomous National University and the Universidad Latina in Mexico, the Universidad del Valle de Guatemala and Universidad Nacional de Colombia and Universidad de la Empresa (CEIP) in Colombia.

The Hispanic community has its own page on the website of Sakai in which issues are dealt with issues of translation and adaptation to the specific Spanish way of working (http://confluence.sakaiproject.org/display/SPANISH/S2U+-+ Spanish + Sakai + Group). This working group is taking a heavy weight in the community helping and pressing for all new developments made in the community to be correctly i18n.

Samoo is a participant in this group, is the Spanish company that currently provides support to several of these universities in Spain and Latin America. We have made several deployments of Sakai and new tools for Sakai inside the environment of this group and Samoo has installed Sakai in some of that places.
